Commissioning a custom closure for a spirit

A closure is the first thing a buyer touches and the last thing they see on the shelf. This is how a custom closure in silver or 24-karat gold is commissioned, from the first conversation to the production run.
Why a metal closure
On a premium spirit the closure carries as much of the price as the label. A cap in silver or 24-karat gold is heavier, cooler and more precise in the hand than a plastic closure, and it turns the bottle into an object people keep after the last pour. Our caps are designed to fit most wine, spirit and champagne bottles.
From brief to production
01
Send the bottle
The bottle itself, or its technical drawing, and the closure you use today if there is one. Fit is decided from the real neck, not from a photograph.
02
Design
Your logo, a shape that belongs to your brand, or a finish applied to the cap you already produce. We return drawings and revise them with you.
03
Prototype
You review a prototype on the bottle before anything is committed. A finish is difficult to argue about in words and simple to judge in the hand.
04
Production
Every closure is finished by hand in Mexico City. We have produced up to 80,000 caps a year for Tequila Patrón; we will also make a limited edition of a few hundred.
Finishes
Silver, 24-karat gold, copper and black copper, alone or combined — a silver cap with the logo in gold is a common choice, because it puts the brand at the single point the eye goes to. Each piece is sealed with a protective lacquer and needs nothing but the occasional dusting.
Timing and cost
A very simple piece takes about a week; a complex one about a month. We give a real date once we have seen the bottle.
Price moves with size, complexity, finish and quantity. Quantity matters more than people expect: beyond economies of scale, a workshop that has made the same shape a few hundred times finds faster ways to make it, and that comes back to you in the price per unit.
Questions from spirits brands
Is there a minimum order?
No. We will make a single prototype, a limited edition or a full production run.
Can you finish a closure we already produce?
Yes. Some clients send us the part they already make and we finish it.
Do you make the bottle as well?
Yes. We design and make custom bottles and decanters too, including the logo in silver or gold.
